TO PARTICIAPTE IN THIS PROGRAM YOU MUST BE A MOTHER TONGUE ENGLISH SPEAKER.

Age group: 18 - 39   Single Females only.

Education:  Completed year 12 or higher

Period of commitment:  12 month placements all year round. ChinaChildcare experience: Minimum of 200 hours. This can be any fairly regular interaction with children not related to you, up to age 12. Experience with children related to you is acceptable but only in addition to that of non-related children.  Preference will be given to applicants who have excellent hands on childcare experience or a nanny qualification.

Visa :   Cultural Exchange Visa:  You will be advised how to apply for the visa, be provided with any necessary documents and full details of how to apply once you have matched with a family. You will be provided with assistance registering with local authorities. The family will cover the cost of the work visa or any extension.

Applicants to China as an Nanny Tutor must speak English as their mother tongue as you will assist a family or their children to learn to speak English or to improve their English.
Australian, New Zealand, American, Canadian, British, South African citizens who are mother tongue English speakers may apply for this program.

All positions are live in. All allowances and bonuses are quoted net of tax unless otherwise advised. Nanny Tutors are not asked to drive so a driving license is not a requirement of this program.

You pay your own round trip airfare and Travel/health insurance cover.China

Nanny Tutor
  • If possible you would have a TEFL or TESOL qualification but it is not essential
  • If possible you would have a nanny qualification [certificate 2. 3 or diploma] but it is not essential as long as you have excellent hands on childcare experience.
  • Work 40 hours per week. On average 8 hours a day.
  • Help family members to learn to speak English or to improve their English.
  • Help with school work or home work; possibly accompany the children to and from school, play games as part of the learning English experience.
  • Light household tasks such as laundry, light cleaning and maybe making breakfast.
  • Be a non smoker
  • Be willing to try to learn to speak some Chinese
  • Be willing and able to adapt to another culture
  • Have a sense of responsibility and a positive "can do" attitude
Nanny tutors get
  • Your own comfortable room, shared or own bathroomChina
  • Full board and lodge
  • 2  days free per week which are usually taken during the week. Children are at home over the weekend and families like them to have time to work on learning English with the Nanny/Tutor.
  • Be given an allowance of 5000-7000 Yuan per month net.
  • At the end of your stay you could be given an airfare bonus of up to  5000 Chinese Yuen [equivalent to AU$750]

You are encouraged to learn to speak some Chinese as it will help you to get around. You will be able to learn Chinese by asking the host parents to help you by speaking to you in Chinese as often as possible.

General Information.

Nanny Tutor placements can be in any province on the Chinese mainland
Apply for this program about 3 -4 months before you wish to go to allow time for the application, interview and acceptance and visa process.

We suggest that all applicants should try to have some words of basic Chinese before they leave. Knowing some vocabulary will help you to settle in. There are many good books, CDs and internet sites to learn from including www.rosettastone.com  China

Whilst we have converted Yuan to $s we can only give an idea of the spending power of the Yuan in China. The allowance will be more than sufficient to socialise with young people you will meet up with and to buy personal things for yourself. 1 Yuan = 15 AU cents. To give you an idea of what your money will buy in Beijing: Bus ride 4 yuan, subway 2 yuan, taxi minimum fare 10 yuan, bowl of noodles 7 yuan, plate of dumplings 5 yuan, ice tea or a beer 2.5yuan, go to the market and bargain and get a T shirt for 30-40 Yuan, pants 50-70 yuan, shoes 50-100 yuan.  

The visa to China takes about 1-2 weeks to be issued.

The amount paid to you is pocket money and should be accepted as that. Should you wish to travel in China while there, take additional money with you or a credit/debit card.
