Summer Work USA

To be accepted onto this program you should:

• Be a current full time tertiary student not yet in their final year of studies at University, Technical college or Tafe
• Speak English as your mother tongue or be highly skilled in English
• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Accept that punctuality and regular work attendance are a requirement.
• Be able to adapt easily to your surroundings and to the possibility of working flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
• Be responsible and reliable with a "can do" attitude.

This program runs between about the 10th November and the end of February or mid March. Actual dates can and will vary according to the potential employer’s requirements. In general you work for 2 months and have the third month in which to travel in America before returning home.

You will be assisted with initial housing but there is nothing to prevent groups of young people eventually finding their own share accommodation.   US$100 is required as the initial good faith deposit and rent is in the region of US$25 per week.

Basic training is provided by the employer.

Average rates of pay are between US$7.50 - US$8.50 per hour with the possibility of up to US$11 per hour.

You are guaranteed 1 shift of 8 hours working 32 to 40 hours per week. If there is opportunity and you wish to work additional shifts you may do so.

When we have sent in your application you will be interviewed personally direct from the USA, on Skype. If offered a job you may accept or refuse said job. However, one should bear in mind that there may not be another job available.

What you are provided with:

• Full back up and support by our America associates during the time of stay.
• Health insurance cover for the period of your contract.
• Full visa application information from JCR.  
• All the necessary documents to be able to apply for the legal J1 visa, direct from the USA.
• A receipt showing that the Sevis fee required by the US State Department has been paid, on your behalf, by our America associates. This receipt is part of the visa application documents.  

Costs:

• You pay your own round trip airfare
• You pay the cost of the visa which is about AU$300
• Deposit of AU$250 when sending in your application
• Balance of AU$700 on placement

Upon application, the form that must be filled out and signed will be sent to you. It must be sent back to us together with a full length photograph, a head and shoulders photograph and a letter from your University, Technical College or Tafe stating that you are a full time, ongoing student and your current year of study.
